Mercer & Hole’s chosen Charity of the Year, Alzheimer’s Society, delivered a ‘learn and lunch’ to their team of Charity Champions across the four offices.
The ‘learn and lunch’ consisted of Alzheimer’s Society providing an insight into what it is like living with Dementia and Alzheimer’s, facts about the diseases and five things everyone should know about Dementia.
Five key things
- Dementia is not a natural part of ageing
- Dementia is caused by diseases of the brain
- Dementia is not about memory loss – it can affect thinking, communicating and doing everyday tasks
- People can live well with dementia
- There is more to a person than the dementia
After the ‘learn and lunch’ session the team of Charity Champions volunteered to become ‘Dementia Friends’ and also made personal pledges to the charity which they will carry out in the community, with friends and family.
Pippa Holdup, Alzheimer’s Society Community Fundraiser said “It was so lovely to meet all the Charity Champions and to hear all the amazing plans Mercer & Hole have for the coming year. We are delighted that all champions are now Dementia Friends as well. Dementia Friends is our biggest ever social action movement, helping us to ultimately create a more dementia-friendly society. We cannot thank you all enough for supporting Alzheimer’s Society this year and uniting with us against dementia”
Throughout 2018 Mercer & Hole will be fundraising to support Alzheimer’s Society, which sees 1 in 6 people over the age of 80 affected with dementia.
