Empowering the next generation: Mercer & Hole proudly sponsor Write Now

Mercer & Hole would like to announce its sponsorship of Write Now, an initiative aimed at supporting the future voices of St Albans. With alarming statistics highlight the mental health challenges faced by young people globally and the growing phenomenon of ‘News Anxiety’ exacerbated by the constant exposure to negative media, it’s crucial to provide platforms for youth to express themselves and be heard.

According to global statistics, one in seven 10-19 year olds experiences mental disorder, with anxiety being a leading cause of illness and disability among young people. Furthermore, the overwhelming influx of negative news stories on social media and continuous 24 hour news coverage has led many children to disengage from current events, struggling to discern truth from sensationalism.

In response to these pressing issues, St Albans Times Editor, Matt Adams, has spearheaded the Write Now initiative. This program offers young people between 11-17 the opportunity to share their opinions on local, national and global topics through informed writing. With Write Now, the youth of St Albans can have their say and contribute meaningfully to the community’s discourse.

Matt Adams says “Write Now is about empowering young people to voice their thoughts and concerns. We want to provide a platform for future generations of St Albans to express themselves and share their passions.”

Write Now invites young writers to submit 500 word pieces on topics they care deeply about for publication in the St Albans Times. Whether it’s advocating for eco- campaigns, dissecting the US Presidential elections, or examining the local impact f climate change on wildlife, Write Now encourages young voices to take centre stage.
