What’s changed about your typical day in the last five years?
I now have more flexibility and control over how to approach tasks and organise my workload. I have been able to become more proactive rather than reactive.
How have you adapted to working from home?
I think it’s been a refreshing change and has been great to claw back some personal time instead of commuting – it certainly accelerated a trend that was coming anyway. I do miss being around my team and would like to settle into a hybrid arrangement going forward when possible.
Why did you decide to choose this career?
Like many people in Restructuring and Insolvency, I kind of fell into it. I applied for a finance job as part of my sandwich year at university without really knowing what insolvency was. I must have liked it, as I am still doing it some 13 years later.
How do you break up your day – breaks, lunch, a walk?
I try to go for a walk each lunchtime to get some fresh air and clear the mind – I find I am much more productive if I give myself proper breaks in the day.
Which social media platform do you visit every day?
Twitter and Reddit, to keep up my niche interests.
What was the work highlight of 2020 for you?
Passing the JIEB exams which led to obtaining my insolvency licence and being promoted.
What is one of your work goals for 2021?
To get back to seeing my professional contacts on a regular basis – you just can’t beat face-to-face time and chewing the fat over a pint or two.
