Our partner, Chris Laughton, is the UK representative and joined the recent (virtual) meeting to discuss international restructuring and insolvency in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.

While the pandemic has given rise to a variety of restrictions and economic effects in different countries, it is clear that global insolvency rates are currently low but set to rise significantly in the coming months. Common themes are the need for businesses to seek early advice and the overwhelming impact on some of the prolonged pandemic-related restrictions. Viable businesses should be able to be rescued, but some will be unable to recover and are no longer viable.

Cooperation and communication are the watchwords of cross-border restructuring and insolvency.
