What to watch out for when disposing of a UK rental property
Lynsey is a director in the Private Client team and specialises in assisting high net worth individuals.
Lynsey advises on all aspects of personal taxation including matters relating to income tax, capital gains tax and inheritance tax. Having undertaken a secondment in 2015 at a firm in New York through the firm’s international network, The International Accounting Group (TIAG), Lynsey acts for a number of US citizens and Green Card holders living in the UK. For these clients, who are having to navigate tax legislation in two jurisdictions, Lynsey will work closely with their US adviser to ensure a joined-up approach and minimise the pitfalls that a dual US/UK tax resident can face. She regularly deals with the application of double tax treaties and enjoys pulling these apart to ensure the most tax-efficient result for the client.
Day-to-day, Lynsey’s main motivation is to provide advice to her clients, which is clear and concise and within the boundaries of the UK tax legislation. Lynsey’s approach is that whilst the UK tax legislation is complicated, the advice she provides should be practical and comprehensible.
Lynsey joined Mercer & Hole in 2008 and qualified with the Association of Tax Technicians (ATT) in 2010, then as a Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA) in 2012. In October 2020 she was promoted to Private Client Director at the firm.
Outside of work, Lynsey enjoys running (although is mostly now running after her toddler) and is a keen Everton Football Club supporter. Lynsey also volunteers for the charity ‘Tax Help for Older People’.
