Nicola Johnston is a Probate Director specialising in estate administration and applications for Grants of Representation. She joined Mercer & Hole in May 2025, having previously worked at prominent law firms including Macfarlanes and Charles Russell, and has extensive experience advising on estates of varying sizes and complexity.
Her work covers all aspects of the estate administration process, including collation of asset information, preparation of inheritance tax returns, negotiating and finalising the estate’s tax position with HMRC, preparing estate income tax returns, and producing estate accounts.
Nicola understands that the administration of an estate often takes place during a difficult time for clients and she is committed to providing clear, practical and supportive advice throughout the process.
Nicola works closely with the firm’s Private Client partners, as well as the wider Trust and Tax team. She is a full member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) and the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives (CILEX).
Outside of work, Nicola enjoys running, going to the gym and reading. She also loves spending time with her children and grandchildren.
