Pension changes adding confusion and opportunity!
Michael is a Chartered Financial Planner and a Fellow of The Personal Finance Society. He has a long established career as a financial planner and works with a wide variety of individual and business clients with different backgrounds, providing them with bespoke, high quality advice.
The majority of Michael’s tax and financial planning work is within the areas of retirement and estate planning. Michael helps clients plan for retirement and beyond; to protect their lifestyle expectations whilst undertaking inheritance tax planning so wealth can be passed on for the benefit of others. Michael was recognised for the quality of his work in the Money Management Financial Planner Awards 2017, where he was the runner-up in the At Retirement Planner of the Year category.
Michael’s ability and experience is such that he also acts as an expert witness in cases which require an independent specialist to review financial planning details and to report on findings. In particular, when considering the implications on pension settlements within divorce cases, Michael is able to demonstrate the robustness of pension valuations and provide qualified and quantifiable opinion on figures for settlement. He will also highlight how the lifetime allowance is affected for individuals where the pension assets are transferred.
More recently, Michael has been involved in assessing a variety of pension schemes; most notably, defined benefit arrangements, where he has been looking at the fine details and nuances of particular schemes and providing comment.
In December 2020, Michael commented in the FT’s Investors’ Chronicle article on managing early retirement.
