Helen Price is Deputy Managing Partner, having started with Mercer & Hole as a graduate trainee in 2003. Based at our St Albans office, Helen specialises in providing practical tax advice (covering income tax, capital gains tax and inheritance tax) and a wide range of compliance services to a diverse range of private clients, often with a family theme at the core and heart. She has acted for many of her clients for over 20 years and takes real pride in helping them to understand the world of tax.

Helen makes it a priority to understand what is important to them, and what concerns or worries them most, building up long-standing relationships to be on hand very much as a trusted adviser. She finds this incredibly important in an ever-changing tax landscape.

Helen particularly enjoys advising on the taxation, administration, and accounting of trusts and estates. She also acts as a professional trustee or executor, including for charitable trusts, for some of her clients and this can be as a director of our trust corporation, Mercer & Hole Trustees Limited.

Working closely with our financial planning team, Helen offers her clients joined-up advice on both aspects of tax and financial planning. This approach enables Helen to provide her clients with a thorough understanding of their personal balance sheets, pulling together a rock-solid foundation, and to then work with them on their overall financial plan incorporating tax along the way.

Helen is a member of the management team at Mercer & Hole and, in November 2024, became Deputy Managing Partner. She is thrilled to have the opportunity to be part of the team leading the firm that she joined more than 20 years ago. With a particular interest in developing and mentoring young professionals, Helen is often involved in training more junior members of her team offering guidance and encouragement to those looking to build a career in tax – many then remain with the firm after their qualification.

Helen began her career as a graduate trainee with Mercer & Hole in 2003. She then became a member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation (CIOT) in 2006 and is delighted to have been the recipient of their Spofforth Medal awarded for the highest marks achieved in a specialist paper on the taxation of individuals, trusts and estates.

In 2011 she became a member of the Society of Trust & Estate Practitioners (STEP), the professional body for the trust and estate profession worldwide, and was recognised as a STEP Excellence Awards 2012 Winner – being named as the Accountants & Tax Practitioners Diploma Student of the Year. That same year, Helen successfully completed a postgraduate certificate in management from Birkbeck, University of London.

Outside of work, Helen is married and has two children and lives in St Albans. She can be found at her local early morning bootcamp and, at the weekends, spends time supporting her children in their sporting activities as well as cheering on St Albans City FC. Helen loves a holiday adventure with her family, as well as reading and attending live music events.
