The elderly benefitted from Mercer & Hole’s staff serving them lunch at the Milton Keynes Irish Centre on 30 July 2014. Ingrid Bryson, Carol Sheargold, Jig Qi and Natalie Taylor took part in the ‘Act of Kindness’ which is one of 25 being committed by the firm of Chartered Accountants as they celebrate 25 years of the firm’s Milton Keynes’ office.
The team of four dished up lunch to 120 older Irish people and their friends, who come together on Wednesday lunchtimes at the MK Irish Centre. The lunch club is a weekly highlight for many of the attendees, especially for those who depend on the service provided and who would otherwise face social isolation.
As well as enjoying lunch, the elderly get to enjoy games like bingo and also contribute to local charities, as well as getting the opportunity to mix and chat with their peers. They also appreciate special events on the calendar, such as the Christmas lunch.
Milton Keynes Irish Welfare Support Group provides this valued service, which is manned solely by volunteers for the charity. They also provide the elderly with the services of an Outreach Worker, who helps with information on benefits, form filling and who also provides advice on such topics as returning to Ireland.
Mary Charlwood said “Our members were delighted that Mercer & Hole came to their lunch club. The members all commented that it was so nice that the young ladies came to serve lunch and showed an interest in their hobbies. They did a fantastic job at serving lunch and we hope to see Mercer & Hole soon."
Mercer & Hole’s ‘25 Acts of Kindness’ campaign continues and we’ll be uploading news on the next beneficiary soon.
