Lisa Spearman volunteers at Disability Awareness Day
Continuing with their 25 Acts of Kindness campaign to mark 25 years of business in Milton Keynes, Mercer & Hole have supported Disability Awareness Day which took place in Campbell Park on Sunday, 13th June 2014.
Lisa Spearman, a Private Client Partner with the firm, volunteered at the event and arrived early in the day to help with the preparations. Putting up marquees is far cry from Lisa’s professional career, where she advises individuals on such subjects as inheritance tax and trusts, but she showed her practical side and got stuck in to the task in hand.
During the event, Lisa met many of the families who attended the carnival-themed picnic and enjoyed the drumming, dance and music performances. Lisa, an avid MK Dons fan, assisted the team’s mascots Donnie and Mooie as they explored the event and joined in with all the activities including the games at the MK Dons Tour bus and archery.
Lisa said “It was a joy to see so many people having fun even though the weather was not all we had hoped for. The local community really pulled together to bring the first disability awareness day celebration to Milton Keynes and we are all looking forward to an even bigger (and hopefully drier) event next year”.
Demonstrating and celebrating the ‘can do’ attitude that exists within the community, the event showcased a wealth of inspiring talent and was attended by Milton Keynes-based paralympians, including fencing champion, 16 year-old Gabi Down , footballer Alistair Patrick-Heselton, and archer Valerie Williamson as well as international visual artist, Gordon Young. Attendees were also given the opportunity to try a wealth of new activities, which ranged from sport to arts and crafts and participated with much enthusiasm.
A good day was had by all.
Watch this space for the next act of kindness coming soon from Mercer & Hole…
