On Wednesday 20 July, Mercer & Hole were fortunate enough to be joined by Watford Football club stars Tom Cleverley and Helen Ward who cut the ribbon at the official opening of Trinity Court, Mercer & Hole’s new premises in Rickmansworth.

“What an honour it was to be joined by two incredible players to celebrate the opening of our new premises. At Mercer & Hole we have been visible in the Watford business community for quite a few years and we were so fortunate to welcome Watford stars Tom and Helen to our offices to cut the ribbon.” Mark Cassidy, Audit and Business Advisory Partner.

Tom Cleverley, has played for Watford since 2017, in his career he has played for Manchester United, Leicester City, Everton and represented England.

Helen Ward is an international striker and prolific goal scorer who has played for Arsenal, Chelsea and then 14 years as team captain at Watford.

We asked both players what advice they would give to their younger selves when they were first setting out on their professional careers. Helen’s advice was, If you dream it; believe it!’ I thought there would be no chance of playing professional football let alone international football as a kid, so believing in yourself, even if your friends think it’s crazy is so important. I would also reiterate that there’s a place for you if you want it, in any industry.”

Tom said, “Hard work! Also – it’s so important to listen to older and more experienced people. When you first start out you are so young and excited to be playing, it’s essential to listen to and respect the knowledge of your elders.”

Both players reiterated how important it was to have a strong support network around them to play at the level they are at and to balance their work and family life. This is something we can relate to at Mercer & Hole as we place such a strong emphasis on a good work/life balance and coming together as a successful team.

After the ribbon cutting ceremony, we enjoyed a delicious lunch together in the new office. Later in the day, the Mercer & Hole cupcakes made an appearance and we welcomed our Trinity Court neighbours to join us for tea and cake. Check out some of our photos from the day.
