The team at Mercer & Hole thoroughly enjoyed the St Albans Business Festival 2018. We were headline sponsors of the festival week and each day the team were busy networking, presenting and spending time with the business community in Hertfordshire.

We started the week with the Business Expo on Monday 11 June. The Mercer & Hole stand was busy with a buzzer game which was quite a hit! In the evening, Mercer & Hole joined fellow professionals in St Albans for a Gin tasting evening.

Then on Tuesday it was all about Speed Networking and the business people of St Albans having speedy “get to know you chats” to break the ice!

For heavyweight business and social discussion, on Wednesday there was an informative session at The Noke with a Business Breakfast Seminar with Esther McVey, Secretary of State for Work and Pensions MP. Ross Lane, Mercer & Hole’s General Practice Partner also spoke at the breakfast. Ross talked about his experience of St Albans and the professionalism and friendliness he has encountered since becoming partner at the firm.

Wednesday night it was buzzers at the ready for the Business Quiz at Old Albanian’s Rugby Club. Our Corporate Finance Director, Mike Orton, read out a round of quiz questions. Ticket sales on the evening raised £1,000 for Herts Young Homeless.

On Thursday, it was all about taking time out and reflecting for our Head of HR Sarah Murphy who attended a Mindfulness course. Sarah learnt the importance of healthy reflection, taking time to think about feelings and situations and how to utilise these skills in the workplace with colleagues.

In the evening, it was out and about for Mercer & Hole’s Marketing Director Maria Bailey. Meeting at the new St Albans Museum + Gallery, a group headed off on a ‘wild foraging walk’ hosted by the team at the Verulam Arms. With a leisurely walk along the river Ver and a finishing drink at the pub – naturally!

Throughout the week there has been engaging business workshops run by Stanta. On the final day, Gill Tallon, Mercer & Hole’s Deputy Managing Partner spoke at the Carpenters’ Nursery a family run business since 1923. Gill touched on the strong business community in St Albans along with her passion for giving care and attention to clients you can reap the rewards of watching their family wealth grow.

A great week for all involved with St Albans Business Festival. Thank you to St Albans Chamber of Commerce.
