The Lockdown Diaries – Will Hyde

Being part of the Mercer & Hole team feels very much like a family atmosphere whether we are working from our offices or at home as everyone is willing to take the time out of their day to speak to you which is so important in this situation.

Office essentials and other challenges

The most challenging aspect for me is the loss of office essentials including printers, scanners, and dual screens, but Mercer & Hole has been very accommodating ensuring the needs of all employees are met wherever possible. It has been hard to work in lockdown with four other family members in my house and I had to experiment to find the best place to work in the house.

The importance of technology

Technology has been so important for me to communicate with the rest of my team and it has enabled us to be just as effective in progressing our cases as if we had been in the office together. I have enjoyed the firm-wide quizzes, which have provided fantastic opportunities to catch up with other colleagues and given me a sense of normality.

I feel very motivated reading the weekly email from Gill and Paul because it provides a useful update on the impact of Covid-19 on the firm and its employees and I find this more insightful and helpful than simply watching the government briefings.

My main takeaway from this experience will be the ability to adapt and be flexible in the way I work within my team and throughout the firm.
