After last week’s warm up against H E Stringer, the Mercer & Hole cricket team were back in action, this time against Debenhams Ottaway solicitors in a 20 over match at Kings Langley Cricket Club.

Sandy Bell, Peter Godfrey-Evans, Daniel McCloskey (captain), Daniel Bisby, Chris Dennell, Chris Geaney, Stas Toates, Will Readman, Ravi Desai, Ben Samuels and Matt Pollard, who made up the Mercer & Hole team, had high hopes of repeating last year’s victory.

After a scratchy start to our batting, Daniel Bisby injected som

e momentum into the innings with 16 runs. Stas Toates then made a maximum 25, including two towering leg side sixes, and was well supported by Will Readman and Ravi Desai. The total of 124 looked competitive.

Good off spin bowling by Ben Samuels had Debenhams Ottaway in trouble and at 60-5 it was going our way. Unfortunately, a couple of missed chances and then some good hitting from the Debenhams Ottaway middle order batsmen took the game away, with them scoring the winning runs in the 17th over.

Best batsmen was Stas Toates, best bowler was Ben Samuels and best fielder was Matt Pollard.

The team enjoyed a fine cricket tea afterwards, and congratulated the opposition on their victory.
