Important 31 December 2010 deadlines
Listed Places of Worship Grant Scheme and the Memorials Grant Scheme
With effect from 4 January 2011 amendments to the scheme are to affect funding available to listed places of worship and those responsible for memorials.
The Department of Culture, Media and Sport have recently announced that 31 December 2010 is the last day that they will be accepting claims for works on clocks, pews, bells, organs and professional services such as architects’ fees. Any grant application receipts for these types of works received after this date will not be processed.
The Department of Culture, Media and Sport have had to initiate this cut in financial support to churches and other bodies due to a lack of funds. They had initially considered reducing the amount of support available to a rate of 15%, but instead adopted a continuation of the grant at the full VAT rate but excluding work on clocks, pews, bells, organs and professional services.
Steps should be taken to expedite any work that is currently being carried out, or put in place budgetary measures for any schemes that are unlikely to be completed before 4 January 2011.
Government help available for replacement of audio equipment:
31 December 2010 is also the deadline issued by the Government in 2009 for any claims for compensation relating to the cost of replacing Channel 69 radio microphones and associated equipment.
A claim for a grant towards the cost of the replacement of the 800MHz radio frequency, which is widely used in village halls, theatres and churches can only be made if a valid Channel 69 licence was held on 2 February 2009 and the equipment was bought before 30 June 2009. However, claims will only be valid if registered between 23 September and 31 December 2010.
