National insurance confusion
Recent press reports show that HMRC is contacting individuals who receive property letting income and seeking to charge national insurance. There is historical case law that indicates this is not necessarily correct but HMRC seem to be taking a different view. If you do hear from HMRC on this you should take professional advice so the matter can be resolved quickly, without incurring significant costs in terms of national insurance and, potentially, interest and penalties.
