Fightback from USA on European tax protection measures
The US-based Centre for Freedom and Prosperity (CF&P), joined by representatives from 20 other free market and taxpayer advocacy organisations, recently sent an open letter to the US Congress about the ‘dangers posed to US interests and the global economy’ by the work done on the OECD’s BEPS project. The coalition of organisations has pressed Congress to take an active role in the discussions over international corporate tax policy. The letter contends that the true aim of the BEPS project is to undermine tax competition and pave the way for higher taxes across the globe.
The CF&P President said that “no one is speaking up for US businesses and taxpayers, which is why Congress must get involved” and the Chairman added the project is “… tax grab aimed primarily at US companies”.
The President of Americans for Tax Reform said that European governments should consider making themselves attractive targets for capital rather than seeking to penalise US companies.
