Delay in telling employees about PAYE code changes

HMRC is seeking powers that would enable it temporarily to withhold details of PAYE code changes from employees.

The proposal is intended to allow HMRC to send out notices to employers at times when it is best able to deal with these and send employees details out later.  The result is that employees could be kept in the dark for up to 30 days.

This should lead to some “interesting” discussions between employers and employees if their net pay goes down with no warning.
