I graduated with a BSc Honours degree in Accounting and Financial Management from Loughborough University in 2007 then spent a year pursuing my passion for travelling visiting South Africa, Malawi, Kenya and Egypt and working for a family business.
Coming back to ‘normality’ I was given the opportunity to join Mercer & Hole (M&H) as a tax trainee based at the Milton Keynes office in July 2008.
Working for the tax department at Mercer & Hole, combined with studying to obtain professional qualifications, enabled me to gain extensive experience in the areas of personal and corporate taxation. The first year and a half of my employment was working purely in personal tax at the same time studying towards the Association of Tax Technicians (ATT) exams. Having successfully attained the ATT qualifications in January 2010, I went on to study for my Chartered Tax Advisor (CTA) qualifications whilst at the same time I was given the opportunity to enhance my working experience by getting involved in Corporation Tax. I successfully passed my CTA exams in July 2011 with an award from the CIOT (Chartered Institute of Taxation) for obtaining the highest marks in OMB (Owner Managed Business) module in the East Midlands region.
The last three years have been challenging requiring strong discipline and commitment but the support I received from the firm and my colleagues was invaluable. Not only has the opportunity provided by M&H helped me achieve my ambition of qualifying as a Chartered Tax Advisor but it has helped me create and develop a career in tax and I am now working as an Assistant Manager dealing with a wide range of clients in the Milton Keynes office.
I strongly recommend the training scheme offered at Mercer & Hole as it provides a platform to execute a successful professional career which is infinitely rewarding. My career has also allowed me to keep up my passion for travelling!
