Rosie Tullett

I joined Mercer and Hole in August 2010 after graduating in June with a degree in French and German.
When I told people that I was applying for jobs in accountancy lots of them were surprised that someone with a languages degree would consider that an option. But for me it seemed a logical next step; after spending four years in a very academic environment I wanted to do something practical, something that would be useful in the real world.
So far this job has given me exactly that. I’m learning a lot about different types of business and how they work, which I’ve found really interesting, and I’m also acquiring a technical skill that will hopefully prove useful in my later career. The work here is also really varied; I’ve been working in London, St Albans and Milton Keynes and on variety of different clients from pubs to factories.
I’m also studying for the ACA qualification, which is hard work, but the teachers at college are very helpful and will answer any questions, which makes it more manageable.
The atmosphere in the office is also really supportive; there are plenty of other trainees who’ve been through the same stages I’m going through so can give information or advice if I need it, and it’s also very sociable.
