Mercer & Hole support Harpenden Spotlight on Africa Summer Ball 2017
Mercer & Hole Chartered Accountants supported the Harpenden Spotlight on Africa Summer Ball 2017, held within the Luton Hoo Walled Garden on 30th June.
The ball was held in aid of Harpenden Spotlight on Africa’s work in providing educational resources in the Mbale area. The charity has built two nursery and primary schools, which provide education to approximately 1,300 children. It also supports healthcare education, clean water supply and economic development.
Private Client Partner, Gill Tallon, who was involved in the organisation of the event, gave an opening address and welcomed guests. She then joined Senior Partner, Paul Maberly and fellow partners Mark Cassidy, Helen Price and Ross Lane, along with guests of the firm for dinner. There was entertainment in the form of live music from the London Function Band, a game of Heads and Tails, a silent auction and a raffle.
Throughout the evening, the Spotlight Ball raised £30,000 for the charity. A significant amount was raised in relation to the Book Project. This project focuses on the current circumstances where 18 children share one text book. By raising this significant amount of funds it now means no more than three children will have to share one text book, which will make a difference to the development of their learning.
Speaking of the success of the evening, Gill Tallon said “I am overwhelmed by the generosity of everyone who attended the ball. It was a fantastic evening and the outcome will make a big difference to the work that Harpenden Spotlight on Africa carries out. To know now there will be no empty bookcases in the school makes me feel very proud of the Book Project.”
