Mercer & Hole host an afternoon of croquet at The Hurlingham Club
Mercer & Hole Chartered Accountants welcomed guests to The Hurlingham Club in Fulham yesterday.
Senior Partner, Paul Maberly hosted the event and welcomed friends of the firm to the Cricket Pavilion for an afternoon of croquet. He was joined by fellow partners, Steve Smith, Andy Crook, Chris Laughton, Peter Godfrey-Evans, Helen Cain, Ross Lane along with Directors Alison Palmer and Henry Page, Chartered Financial Planner, Michael Lapham and Private Client Manager, Henry Lowe.
It was a tough competition seeing five teams into the semi-final, a first for us. The croquet coach, Annabel, asked the three teams with the same score of ‘13’ to take part in a ‘nearest to the pin’ challenge. The teams consisted of Partner, Steve Smith and Dan Barrett, Partner, Andy Crook and Paul Stuart-Buddery and Partner, Peter Godfrey-Evans and Rishis Malliwal. It was a tense game which saw Steve Smith and Dan Barrett miss out on a chance to take part in the semi-final.
The semi-final matches were equally as competitive with Peter Godfrey-Evans and Rishi Malliwal play Paul Maberly and Richard Beavan, whilst Alison Palmer and Lawrence Philips played Andy Crook and Paul Stuart-Buddery.
The finalists were Paul Maberly and Richard Beavan along with Andy Crook and his partner Paul Stuart-Buddery, the competition was friendly and played in good spirit.
The duo who won on the day for the second year in a row was Richard Beavan and Paul Maberly.
One player which stood out on the day for his tactical eye for the game along with his style and panache went to Jeremy Brockis.
After the croquet, everyone enjoyed a BBQ and drinks on the terrace, within the spectacular grounds of Hurlingham, which sits on the banks of the River Thames.
