Roger Bell
Tax Manager
Roger specialises in VAT matters and provides advice to small and medium sized enterprises, to fellow professionals and not for profit organisations on all aspects of VAT compliance and planning. He is regularly consulted on the more difficult areas of the tax, including land and property transactions, cross border issues and partial exemption.
Roger has over thirty years experience in VAT. He started his career in H.M Customs and Excise in their Headquarters policy divisions handling VAT liability issues affecting the oil and power generation industries, education providers and charities. He then led a team of VAT inspectors in Hertfordshire for a while before deciding to widen his general tax experience by joining the profession. Roger is part of Mercer & Hole’s corporate and business tax team and works closely with partners and audit managers to ensure that appropriate VAT advice is given to clients undertaking major transactions such as purchasing or selling a business or commercial property.
Roger is married with two grown up children. Outside work his interests include classical music, art and visiting historical buildings.
