New guidance on decision making for charity trustees

New guidance on decision making for charity trustees has been released by the Charities Commission. Titled “It’s Your Decision”, the guidance assists trustees in making strategic decisions, managing conflicts of interest, and applying Commission-approved principles when carrying out their plans.

The guidance is intended to enable trustees to make more informed decisions in the interest of their charities, and could protect them in the courts if something goes wrong. Practical issues are also covered, such as the conduct of meetings, dealing with different trustee opinions, and the accurate recording of decisions. It provides useful material to any current or prospective charity trustees seeking to better understand their roles and responsibilities within their respective charities.
