The end of Employee Shareholder Status
The tax breaks for shares awarded under the Employee Shareholder Status will be abolished for arrangements entered into on, or after, 1 December 2016.
This follows a huge restriction in relief from an uncapped sum to a £100,000 of gains exemption on the sale of such shares from April 2016.
It appears that the Government believes the relief was being exploited for tax planning purposes.
