Tax evaders - smart or April fools?
People (or companies) who deliberately evade tax may now have their name, address and details of what they did made public from 1st April this year. HMRC are empowered to publish names and details of tax dodgers from that date.
“We are only targeting deliberate tax evaders. So if you know that you have not paid the right tax, and you want to avoid being named, contact HMRC right away to set things straight”.
Sounds a bit like a threat to me.
I would be happier with a bit more certainty that HMRC will not name the wrong people.
