EC stance on tax evasion and avoidance
The EC has issued a plan to clamp down on tax evasion and avoidance across the EU.
The proposal is that tax havens will be identified and blacklisted and moves to shut down aggressive tax planning will be adopted. EU members will be encouraged to reinforce their Tax Treaties and adopt a common General Anti-Abuse Rule.
Other recommendations in the plan include a Taxpayers’ Code, an EU Tax Identification Number, a review of the anti-abuse provisions in key EU Directives, and common guidelines to trace money flows.
The EC’s action plan and recommendations will now be presented to the EU’s Council of Finance Ministers and the European Parliament.
