An update on the guidance on public benefit for charity trustees has been provided by the Charity commission. The Commission has withdrawn the aspects of its public benefit guidance that require rewriting to ensure that the guidance is consistent with the Upper Tribunal’s decision.
Most charities will not be affected by these changes but all need to be aware of the changes. Guidance on the specific withdrawn sections can be found on the Charity Commissions website.
The commission is due to review its public benefit guidance and produce draft guidance by the end of March 2012 and publish in Summer 2012.
All charities must continue to follow the Commission’s guidance and must keep on reporting the public benefit their charity provides.
