The Charities Act 2011 received royal assent on 14th December, and is to come into force in March 2012.
This Act will consolidate existing legislation from the Recreational charities Act 1958, the Charities Act 1993 and many of the provisions of the Charities Act 2006, which will be repealed and replaced.
It does not make any changes to the legal basis of the Commission’s guidance; although references in the guidance will be amended to refer to the new legislation.
It was developed by the Office for Civil Society and the Law Commission, in consultation with the Charity Commission.
A review of the Charities Act led by Conservative peer Lord Hodgson is to go ahead as planned.
